Work with Me

About You

You do you! That's easy to say, but much harder to accomplish. Because gay and lesbian people face difficult intersections between sexual diversity; trauma; religion, faith and spirituality; and conflicting cultural and relational demands. Stress, hypervigilance, shame, anxiety, depression and mental confusion are very common in our community. But you have an amazing ability to heal, grow, and thrive if given the right support. Sometimes the work feels really good. Other times it can be painful. But it's always done with kindness and compassion.

The challenges you're facing may feel heavy or even insurmountable. My work with you will include best-practice approaches for clearing your mental fog and untying your emotional knots combined with practical counseling, encouragement, support and lovingkindness.

About Me

I’ve faced all the intersections I mentioned above. It’s been a long and difficult path, so I operate from both an expansive clinical and a personal knowledge base. I bring with me the kind of empathy that comes from lived experience. I've been in clinical practice since 1996. My intention always is to champion the discovery and growth of the authentic self.

So, I listen. I watch. I think carefully about what I observe. I ask about your feelings and check my own. And I say what needs to be said.

Expertise

Since 1996 I have been exploring with a broad range of clients the difficult intersections between sexual diversity; trauma; religion, faith and spirituality; and cultural and relational demands.

I have unusually broad personal and professional experience with difficult coming out processes, conversion therapy survivorship, faith transitions, sexual orientation confusion, and mixed-orientation marriage.

Education, Training & Licensure

I have a master's degree in counseling psychology plus over 28 years of clinical experience and hundreds of hours of continuing education training. I am licensed in the State of Utah as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC).

I integrate multiple approaches according to the client's need in the moment. My approaches include EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). I am also able to harness the power of the client's imagination to release trauma and trauma-based behaviors from their unconscious.

My View on Therapy

Humans have an amazing ability to heal, grow, and thrive when given the right support. I discovered many years ago that I don't fear the complex, deep and painful places my clients need to take me. And I learned to trust the innate resilience of every person, no matter what they're facing or what they've been through.

Location

I see psychotherapy clients face-to-face at my home office in Draper, Utah. Welcome to my home!

I also work with psychotherapy clients virtually within the State of Utah using a HIPAA compliant Telehealth platform. If you live outside the State of Utah, I offer personal coaching.
